There are so many things to do before heading off on holidays, which can make the lead up a little stressful for anybody jet-setting overseas. We've put together a list of 5 things to consider before you head overseas to help you prepare.

1. Consider travel insurance

While you hope the unexpected doesn't happen, it's good to be prepared. Consider organising travel insurance before you go.

2. Make copies of your travel documents

Make copies of your passport, tickets, itinerary and travel insurance policy. Leave these with a trusted friend or family member who can email them to you, should you lose the originals.

3. Have a number of payment options

For example, cash and a credit or debit card. Make sure you organise some local foreign currency before you go to pay for things on arrival such as taxis or public transport. Read our post on how to pay for things overseas to find out more.

4. Research your destination

Make sure you’re aware of local customs and restrictions, and check travel advisories such as smarttraveller.gov.au. Read our post on 3 sneaky travelling costs to keep in mind before you head off.

5. Visit your doctor

Talk to your doctor about vaccinations you might need and pack enough of any required medications to last your entire trip, including unexpected delays.
