In an Australian first, Heritage Bank has launched a new card recycling pilot across its branches, taking another step forward in its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Rather than cutting up and throwing old cards away, members can help the planet by visiting their local branch to recycle their expired or cancelled Heritage Bank Visa credit or debit cards.
Simply present your old Heritage-branded card at any Heritage branch to be safely and securely shredded and disposed of into a Zero Waste recycling box. The cancelled cards will then be sent to TerraCycle® who specialise in recycling hard-to-recycle materials – like plastic cards.
Heritage is the only bank in Australia to offer this free service to members.
The card recycling pilot is an opportunity for both Heritage and its members to reduce their environmental impact.
This initiative follows on from Heritage’s introduction of Eco Cards, primarily made from plant-based material and containing no conventional plastic, late last year.
During the pilot phase, card recycling is only available for cancelled or expired Heritage-branded Visa credit or debit cards. The outcomes of the pilot will be reviewed in 2024, with a view to expanding the offering.
