Celebrations were in order as the annual Heritage Bank Charity Golf Day last Friday surpassed the $1 million fund-raising milestone.
About 100 members of the business community took on the City Golf Club course in Toowoomba on Friday (1 April) for the annual event, which has now been running for 24 years.
The $65,000 raised at this event, which was postponed from last December due to wet weather, took the total amount raised in the event’s history past the $1 million mark.
Around 130 community and charity organisations have now benefitted from donations made thanks to this event during its history.
CEO Peter Lock said the Charity Golf Day typified the Heritage Bank commitment to community.
“We’re absolutely delighted to reach the $1 million milestone in total funds raised by this event, which provides much-needed donations to grass roots organisations that do such a great job supporting those in need in our community,” he said.
“At Heritage, we’re all about giving a helping hand to people in need.
“The Charity Golf Day is organised and run by staff volunteers, which gives you an idea of the community-focussed values that our members value so much
“The $1 million raised over the past 24 years has done a power of good supporting so many smaller groups that do such amazing work keeping the social fabric of our community together.
“Our help has been needed in particular in the last couple of years with COVID wiping out many fund-raising opportunities for these smaller organisations.
“We’re proud to have helped out, and thank all the sponsors and supporters, including a number who have been with us for the full 24 years the event has been run.”
