Heritage calendar donation helps Gold Coast-based charity build brighter future for Indigenous students

22 April 2021

Indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities can look to a brighter future with more educational opportunities thanks to funds raised by Heritage Bank’s 2021 calendar.

Heritage today presented Yalari, based in Helensvale, with a cheque of over $4300 that will be used to support secondary education scholarships for Indigenous students, as well as provide ongoing mentorship and support.

Heritage’s calendar is a much-loved tradition that features a painting of a historically significant Queensland home. The community is then invited to make a gold coin donation to collect a copy with proceeds donated to a number of charities across southern Queensland.

In 2021 the calendar celebrates the milestone of 40 years with this year’s edition featuring “The Manse”, a 137-year-old home in Ipswich. To celebrate the occasion, owners of “The Manse” Andrea and Peter Fernando were invited to select a charity to receive a portion of monies raised. They selected Yalari as their chosen beneficiary.

Heritage Bank Area Branch Manager Nicole Beam said, “Yalari provides students with an opportunity to access good education and lay a solid foundation for life.

“Most of their scholarship recipients are from remote and regional areas where options for high school are limited.

“However Yalari’s involvement goes beyond funding scholarships. They also ensure students are engaged and connected through mentorship and support services.”

Ms Beam said Yalari planned to use Heritage’s donation to support further activities for team building for the scholarship recipients.

“Yalari’s genuine focus on actively connecting with people is something that really resonates strongly with us at Heritage. We’re delighted to support them on their journey to creating generational change."
