Crows Nest State School students are boosting their love of learning after receiving a Heritage community grant for $19,725 to purchase 25 new laptops.
Heritage Crows Nest Community Branch is a joint venture partnership between Heritage Bank and the local community, represented by PCCN (Progressive Community Crows Nest).
Under the Heritage community branch model, PCCN’s share of profits is distributed back into the community as grants to local organisations, charities and special community events.
Crows Nest State School Principal Ian Insley said, “We are extremely grateful for this grant from PCCN and Heritage.
“This grant has helped provide our students with updated equipment we would otherwise not be able to purchase. It gives our students access to the same resources as students in the city.”
“The new laptops are used as a support tool for their lessons and also help build their confidence in using technology as they move forward in life.”
The new laptops are shared amongst the students at the school to enhance reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy skills and support their preparation for Naplan.
Grade 3 students showed off their impressive skills recently, inviting representatives from Heritage Bank and PCCN into the classroom to see the laptops in use.
PCCN Director Geoff Close said, “We’re absolutely delighted to support the next generation of country kids by providing these new laptops.
“There are quite a few kids in the area that don’t have access to this kind of technology at home. That’s why we’re so proud to help out – it’s about supporting the growth and development of our community as a whole.”
Heritage Crows Nest Branch Sales and Service Manager Aimee Skaines said, “The beauty of being a community branch is that the more people bank with us, the more we are able to give back through grants and sponsorship.
“People can see real examples of local initiatives they’ve helped support just by doing their everyday banking with Heritage. It promotes a real sense of community pride.”
